TEN CLASSICS I NEED TO READ

WHERE I’VE BEEN SINCE MY LAST POST

I’ve been crazy busy with writing the sequel novella This is for You. Initially a sequel was not planned, but as time went on and more and more readers hinted that they wanted to know more, Amy and Seth’s story began churning in my mind again.

You can read the first two chapters of This is for You here.

Since it wasn’t planned, I’m on a fast track writing schedule to get the first draft out of my head so I can set it aside and get back to edits and rewrites for my next full length novel that is due to my editor in October.

If I sound winded, it’s because I am.

WHAT YOU CAME FOR: TEN CLASSICS I HAVEN’T READ YET

After a discussion with a friend, it occurred to me that I haven’t read as many classics as I probably should have. So it prompted me to look up a list of classics and find at least ten that I haven’t read. Out of this list, I definitely haven’t read a lot more than ten, but I chose the ten I most likely will get around to reading.

Ten classics I haven’t read:

  1. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  2. 1984 by George Orwell
  3. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  4. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  5. Slaughterhouse - Five by  Kurt Vonnegut
  6. Dune by Frank Herbert
  7. Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
  8. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
  9. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
  10. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS

What are some classics you haven’t read? If you’ve read any on this list, which should I start with?

Hello cousin,

As I browse through your list of required reading.. I see some of your choices are actually in my own top ten needed reads.

I did however want to put in my weighted responses to the ones on your list I have read: Dune, 1984, Great Expectations, Wurthering Heights, Memiors of A Geisha, Catcher In The Rye and Slaughterhouse Five.

All of these books are phenomenal in their own right! Each with their unique writing styles, perspectives and elaborate stories.

Dune is by far one of the most iconic science fiction novels of all time. The series spans several books and even a Children of Dune collection.

Another face of science fiction genious is Robert Heinlein. Consider tracking down some of his works if you’re on a sci-fi kick.

Gene Roddenberry seems to also have faded from peoples minds but he brought us StarTrek and a slew of science bending beautiful chaos.

1984 is chillingly symbolic as we reach a technological point resembling this plausible future/present...

I wanted to comment on all of them... but realize I’m actually pressed for time.

Anything Kurt Vonnegut is gold.

Quick summary..all in all.. the great thing about classic books is that you can always find a copy of them somewhere.. whenever you get a chance to stop working on projects and find time to read them..... or don’t.

Keep up the writing and know I’m somewhere in the world cheering you on!

Cheers,
-Jeffrey
